Puppet Master III Toulon’s Revenge

Puppet Master III is a nice prequel to the first two Puppet Master movies. We also go back to the good Andre Toulon. I guess we need to just forget the evil Toulon in Puppet Master II.

Released: May 1, 1992

Runtime: 82 mins

Director: David DeCoteau

Writer: Charles Band, C. Courtney Joyner, David Schmoeller

Actors: Guy Rolfe, Richard Lynch, Ian Abercrombie

MY THOUGHTS

Puppet Master III has roughly 13 kills, mostly Nazi’s. Most are just shootings, with a stabbing, and Tunneler gets to drill someone. But overall, not a lot of blood and gore. Which is a little disappointing but I still like the puppets.

As far as characters/actors, Guy Rolfe as Andre Toulon is perfect. I like William Hickey in the first Puppet Master movie, but I feel Guy Rolfe plays the role the best. To me, he is Andre Toulon. And for the evil bad guy, Richard Lynch as Major Kraus is also a great pick. Then again, Richard Lynch playing bad guys is pretty much the norm. Ian Abercrombie plays Dr. Hess, a scientist who works for the Nazi’s but in the end, respected Toulon too much for him to die at the hands of the Nazi’s. And to find out he is the “soul” of Blade, makes sense.

I like this movie as a prequel because we get to see more of Andre Toulon and his wonderful puppets. We get to hear more of, or at least a little bit, of some of his puppets backgrounds. We learn that the special magic comes more from the souls of the people he uses in the doll, versus just using any person.

Here’s some of the information we found out during the movie:

  1. Jester- He was Hans Seiderman, a book-keeper who liked to play jokes, until the Nazis shot him when they went too far.

  2. Pinhead- Was Herman Strauss, a truck driver who snuck food into concentration camps, and was killed by the Nazis because of it.

  3. Tunneler-Was Joseph Sebastian, a soldier who was forced to work in the Nazi's salt mines until he died.

  4. Blade- Was Dr. Hess after he was killed by a nazi soldier, while helping Toulon. I think he was chosen because of the mutual respect that Dr. Hess and Toulon had.

  5. Leech Woman- This was the saddest one. Major Kraus kills Elsa, and Toulon puts her soul into his only female puppet. At least she would be there with him in puppet form if not human form

As you know, I like early Full Moon Features, especially the Puppet Master franchise. So, I tend to give them a pass on some stuff. An example would be when Six Shooter was climbing the building, I could see the strings pulling him up. Ok. Considering it was the 90’s and that was the only time I saw them, I ignored it. But then, not long after that, when Mueller falls out the window to his death, you can see that the stunt guy doesn’t look anything like him. I mean, Mueller is old with gray/white hair. From what I saw, the stunt guy had darker black or brown hair. Plus, he was thinner than him. I had to chuckle at that. Anyways, another fun Puppet Master movie. Another one I would recommend.

And now for your Forever Final Girl Exclusive…Did you know?:

  • Six Shooter was chosen to resemble a cowboy after it was decided that one of Toulon's puppets should represent the opposition towards the Third Reich.

  • The laughter of the Six-Shooter puppet was supplied by Albert Band, father of producer/Full Moon CEO Charles Band. Albert had escaped France during the Nazi regime, which means every time the viewer hears Six-Shooter laughing after he had gunned down a Nazi, that it is the actual voice of a man who had really escaped from them.
