Quick Bite: Tarot

I’m a little late to the game with Tarot. At first I was excited but when people started saying it was horrible, I hesitated. I shouldn’t have listened to the hate. Is Tarot a great movie? No. Is it bad? No. It’s a middle of the road, watered down, teen slasher movie that had good points and some not so good parts.

Positives:

  • Tarot is the typical teen/young adult slasher movie.

  • I enjoyed the aspect of the Tarot cards as the monsters. I liked the look of them.

  • The cast was decent. Not too annoying like the typical horror movie.

  • Jacob Batalon as Paxton gives the right amount of humor for me. In addition you have Olwen Fouéré as Alma (which was a much better role for her than that atrocious “other” movie I won’t mention. LOL)

Negatives:

  • Being a PG-13 doesn’t help the kills. There are some kills, but not really graphic. I would have appreciated at least better kills.

  • I wanted to see more of the Tarot card monsters. As with 13 Ghosts, there just wasn’t enough of the backstory told.

  • There really isn’t a lot of character development to this movie. Not enough to really care, (however, they weren’t annoying either so there is that).

  • Tarot doesn’t actually bring anything new to the slasher sub genre.

Overall, I had a good time with it. I don’t regret watching it. Despite the hate Tarot gets, it was ok. Go into it like it’s a watered down, teen slasher movie and you’ll have a better time with it.
