Evil Toons

Seeing the cover photo of Evil Toons would have made me so excited as a teenager. I loved slasher movies back then (I still do, but it’s different now). Add in a cartoon demon and I’m there. Let me say I don’t have high expectations for slasher movies. I want a killer, a group of people that I typically don’t root for, and just some good old bloody fun. This doesn’t quite live up to that but I still thought it was okay.

MY THOUGHTS

You little bitch! I'll get you in the sequel for this!--Monster

Evil Toons, you disappoint me with the kills. We do get roughly six kills (well, sort of), but they are not very graphic. Just bites. I would expect more, especially with a cartoon demon. But no, that’s a whole different story. At least we get some kills I guess.

As far as acting goes, we have a mixed bag in Evil Toons. Most of the women were porn stars, hence the acting is kind of mixed. Though we get a small appearance from Michelle Bauer (known for being a Scream Queen in such movies as Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, and Trophy Heads just to name a small amount) playing Burt’s wife.

The rest of the cast consist of David Carradine, Dick Miller, and Don Dowe. David Carradine ((known for Kung Fu, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Death Race 2000, and Trick or Treat. He’s done a ton of movies and TV shows.) plays Gideon Fisk, a man who knows why things are happening. Dick Miller (A Bucket of Blood, Little Shop of Horrors, and Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight) plays Burt, the caretaker who hires the girls to clean up the house over the weekend. Wrapping up the cast is Don Dowe (known for Trancers 2 & 3, Tales From the Hood, and Rumpelstiltskin, who plays Biff, Roxanne’s unfortunate boyfriend.

Evil Toons is about Burt, who hires these four sorority girls to stay in this beg house for the weekend and clean it. No boys and no funny business. Unfortunately the girls find a creepy book and decide to read from the book which causes a cartoon demon to appear and possess one of the girls. Then it’s a fight to survive as the remaining girls try to figure out how to defeat the demon.

I was excited about watching a Who Framed Roger Rabbit style horror movie. Boy was I disappointed. The titled cartoon demon only shows up like twice for a short time. If you’re looking for a movie with sorority girls running around screaming, and lots of naked breasts, then this is the movie for you. Plus, I’m always in the mood to see Dick Miller in a horror movie.

And now for your Forever Final Girl Exclusive…Did you know?:

  • At the end of the scene in which Burt (Dick Miller) is watching A Bucket of Blood on TV, just before turning it off, he says the line "How come this guy never won an academy award ?" Dick Miller is talking about himself from his role in A Bucket of Blood.

  • Evil Toons was shot in only eight days.

  • Writer/director Fred Olen Ray cast several porn actresses in the film because they had no problem doing nude scenes.

  • Just before the opening sequence: "The story you are about to see is true. Nothing has been changed. These are the actual people who lived this great adventure and this is exactly the way it really happened. I truly believe this. (signature) Fred Olen Ray"
