Quick Bite: Abigail

Oh boy Abigail is a fun ride! I was going in with a little hesitation because the trailer felt like it gave away too much information (and I still think it did). But I’m so glad I watched Abigail. From the same directors as Scream, Scream VI, and Ready or Not, Abigail fits right in and they are becoming the directors I look forward to seeing their new works.

PLOT:

After a group of criminals kidnap the ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, they retreat to an isolated mansion, unaware that they're locked inside with no normal little girl.

Positives:

  • Blood, blood, and more blood. Not as much as 2013 Evil Dead, but a nice amount.

  • I thought the acting was pretty good. Melissa Barrera as our lead, final girl, was interesting and I would like to see more of. I also thought Alisha Weir did a great job as the ballerina kid who is not as she appears to be.

Negatives:

  • The characters would do stupid stuff like splitting up. And then doing it again and again.

  • This is just a nitpick with the directors, but the overuse of plot armor. There’s a lot of it in Scream and Scream IV and they brought some of it in this movie.

Overall Abigail is a fun ride that I would definitely recommend (as long as you don’t mind a bloody movie). I would say it is one of my favorite releases this year so far.
