Witchouse

So basically, Witchouse is Full Moon Entertainment’s rip-off of 1988’s Night of the Demons. It’s not 100% copied, but the vibe is definitely there. Even the Demon Lilith in this movie looks a lot like possessed Angela. Unfortunately I enjoyed Night of the Demons over this movie.

PLOT

On Mayday 1998 in the town of Dunwich, Massachusetts, Elizabeth gathers together a group of specially selected friends for a rather odd party. It turns out that she is the descendent of a malevolent witch named Lilith who was burned at the stake precisely three hundred years ago. Now Elizabeth hopes to resurrect her dreadful ancestor and has a specific (and murderous) need for the guests she has chosen.

MY THOUGHTS

There’s 8 “deaths” in the film. It’s hard to call them deaths. We do see the severed heads of four people, however, they are not bloody or even gory. We get three people who don’t die, they just get possessed. So Witchouse is a bit disappointing with the lack of blood and gore.

The acting is pretty bad to mediocre. Even though Tony (David Oren Ward) plays a very dumb pothead, he kind of grew on me until his unfortunate death. I find it funny when, like in this case, they get a couple of attractive people (Matt Raftery and Monica Snow) and have them play nerds who are supposed to be unattractive but are obviously attractive. Ashley McKinney Taylor plays Elizabeth, the woman who invites all of her “friends” to the house. There’s something about her tone or acting that I’m on the fence about. I can’t tell if I like it or if it annoys me.

The whole plot revolves around Elizabeth inviting nine of her friends over for a weird party. Once there Elizabeth tells the story of her history and how one of her ancestors was Lilith who was killed by witch hunters. Later we find out that all of the people invited were descendants of the witch hunters and Elizabeth wants Lilith to return so she can get power.

I wanted to take a quick break to let you know I found these great deals on Amazon for Demonic Toys merchandise. I’ve applied to Amazon’s affiliate program and if I can get three purchases I will be accepted into the program. This will be of tremendous help with starting my small business.

I guess if you like witchy kind of movies and you’re a fan of Full Moon Entertainment films then check it out. If not, I would pass on it. I just found it kind of boring.

And now for your Forever Final Girl Exclusive…Did you know?:

  • Benjamin Carr had written the original screenplay for Witchouse. However, his draft was scrapped after Full Moon decided they wanted something more in the vein of "Night of the Demons". Carr's script was later filmed and released as the 2001 film, Stitches.

  • Filmed back-to-back with Retro Puppet Master.

  • Witchouse was shot in 8 days.

  • Director David DeCoteau is credited as Jack Reed in this film. It is not unusual for directors and writers to use a pseudonym, particularly if they wish to distance themselves from a piece of work they feel is unsatisfactory.

  • Actor Dave Oren Ward (who played Tony) was tragically stabbed to death during a traffic altercation in West Hollywood and died in the hospital on April 2nd, 1999 at the age of 27. This film is dedicated to his memory
